More natural energy?

combineBiomass is increasing touted as having a role to play in storable renewable energy but there are issues with inefficiency, both economically and ecologically, as well as ethical problems over land use.

I recently came across the European Interreg COMBINE project which is seeking to address some of these major issues, scientifiically, in terms of the technology used, as well as addressing socio-economic impacts through opening up what the project calls”abandoned, urban natural and agricultural areas for the energy production”. One focus has been on road and rail-side grass as well as non-grass invasive species such as bracken.

Are we verging on a new path towards ethically acceptbale bio-mass fuel through can help secure livelihoods for those in some urban and rural disdvantaged areas? I for one will be following their progress….
