This week sees the Creative Energy Festival in Ynysybwl as part of the AHRC’s Connected Communities ‘Community Futures and Utopias’ Festival. There’s free entry to all the events with comfort food available at the Story Firepit on Saturday evening
There is a series of free events and activities for the whole community organised by the ‘Stories of Change’ project working with local community organisations including the Ynysybwl Regeneration Partnership, the Ynysybwl Enterprise Partnership, Daerwynno Outdoor Centre and Ynysybwl Community Centre.
Activities kick off on the evening of Thursday, May 12th with a Village Voices concert of stories, poems and song at the Ynysybwl Con Club, starting at 7 pm.
A major focus for the festival is a Pop-Up Story Studio. It takes place at the Community Centre on Friday, May 13th between 10am and 6pm, and Saturday, May 14 between 9.30am and 4pm. It features rare film archive, images and stories from Ynysybwl the surrounding area and across the valleys. We invite you to take part in a journey from the past to the present and to envisage the future.
There is also an Energy Workshop on the Saturday morning at 10.30am led by USW Professor Hamish Fyfe and Barbara Castle from the Ynysybwl Regeneration Partnership looking at the possible future of energy in Ynysybwl and beyond
On Saturday May 14th, there is an early-evening “Back to the Future” walk exploring and discovering the changing landscapes of Ynysybwl, led by Daerwynno Outdoor Centre, followed by a outdoor Stories of Change Play for Voices and Storytelling, funded by Arts Council of Wales, featuring professional actors and the community around a firepit.
For the walk. meet by 5.30 pm outside the Roberttown Hotel. The walk will go straight to the Firepit area for those who wish be part of that.
For the story evening itself. meet by 7.30 pm outside the Roberttown Hotel.
